Here is a little bit of information about us, Pratt Family Homestead!
We are a family of 6, Mike, Jeni, TJ, Faith, Andrew, and Grace. We moved to our homestead after living in various cities for about 8 years.
Mike grew up in Alaska, while Jeni grew up in Michigan. Both in country settings, but not farm settings. Mike’s family hunted, fished, and maintained a small garden. Jeni’s family hunted, fished, maintained a small garden, and had a few animals such as pet rabbits and a few ducks.
As our family grew, we knew we wanted more space. We wanted some acreage to grow our own garden and try to start supplementing some of what we purchased from the store. We also wanted some chickens to provide us with fresh eggs. While living in the city, we purchased 3 chickens, without the knowledge that we weren’t supposed to have them until after they were purchased. Oops! That jump started the quest to find something with more space for what we wanted! It wasn’t until we moved in that our plans changed, and rather quickly. We started in with more of a mind set of being self sustaining, or at least as much as possible.
We quickly jumped into purchasing livestock, such as pigs, sheep, and goats, and more chickens. From there we also added in ducks and began the plans for a large garden. A very large garden! We have also become the owners of a horse this past year! We have been here for 2 1/2 years and we are still working on all the ins and outs of what we want to grow and what animals we want and need on the homestead. We invite you to join us on our journey and learn with us!
Thank you for stopping by Pratt Family Homestead! We will talk to you guys later!
